Lithuania to cut public administration spending by 5 percent

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius

The Lithuanian public sector next year will have to reduce its spending by 5 percent, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius said on Wednesday.

“Administration spending will be cut by 5 percent,” he told opposition lawmakers.

The requirement to reduce spending will not apply to statutory bodies, Butkevičius added.

A 5-percent cut in public administration expenditure is envisaged in next year’s budget, which is being drafted, he said.
