Lithuania’s golden girl Meilutytė lays down marker with first swim at European Championships

Rūta Meilutytė laid down a marker with her first swim of the London 2016 European Championships to lead all qualifiers from the 100m breaststroke heats.

The Lithuanian, who won Olympic gold in London four years ago at the age of just 15, was the only swimmer to break 67 seconds in the morning heats as she eased into tonight’s semi-finals.

Meilutytė trains in Plymouth, England is bound to feel at home in London at this year’s championships.
