The popularity of Visvaldas Matijošaitis, mayor of Lithuania's second-largest city Kaunas, continues growing, shows a poll published in Lietuvos Rytas daily on Saturday.

Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaitė ranks first with virtually unchanged support of 63.3 percent of respondents (62.9 pct in October), followed by Matijošaitis with 52.7 percent (62.7 pct in October).

"This is his personal best – 53 percent is the best he has achieved," Vilmorus CEO Vladas Gaidys told BNS.

The list is continued by Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis favoured by 51.3 percent of those polled, an increase from 49.3 percent last month.

"(Skvernelis' ratings) stabilized since the summer. There was a downward period, and the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union also fell along with (its leader) Ramūnas Karbauskis and Skvernelis. The ratings have lately stabilized," said Gaidys.

The prime minister is closely followed by Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius supported by 50.9 percent of respondents (47.2 pct in October).

The drinking scandal strongly affected the ratings of MP Linas Balsys – he dropped from 23.4 percent in October to 10.3 percent in November. In Gaidys' words, this is the sharpest negative change in the public opinion this month.
