NATO fighter-jets serving in the Baltic air-policing mission were last week scrambled three times to intercept Russian warplanes flying in the international airspace, the Defence Ministry said on Wednesday.

Il-20 reconnaissance airplanes were intercepted above the Baltic Sea on Dec. 19, Dec. 20 and on Christmas eve, all of them flying with their onboard transponders switched off.
