Polish president meets with local Polish leader on eve of visit to Lithuania
Polish President Andrzej Duda met with Waldemar Tomaszewski, the leader of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania–Christian Families Alliance (EAPL-CFA), in Warsaw on Wednesday, the party said.
Duda and Tomaszewski discussed the strengthening cooperation between the two neighboring countries and problems faced by the Polish community in Lithuania during their 40-minute meeting at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, it said.
The meeting took place on the eve of Duda's three-day visit to Lithuania.
The Polish president is scheduled to meet with members of the local Polish community at the House of Polish Culture in Vilnius at the start of his visit on Thursday.
Duda, along with other regional and EU leaders, will attend Lithuania's centennial events on Friday and will meet with President Dalia Grybauskaitė to discuss bilateral relations on Saturday.
Around 200,000 ethnic Poles live in Lithuania. Poland had frozen top-level visits to Lithuania for the past five years, accusing Vilnius over the situation of the Polish ethnic minority, but the bilateral relations have been warming up in the past year.
