NATO fighter-jets scrambled once from Lithuania over Russian aircraft

NATO fighter-jets serving in the NATO air-policing mission in Lithuania were last week scrambled once to intercept military aircraft of the Russian Federation in international waters over the Baltic Sea, the Defence Ministry said on Tuesday.

According to the press release, NATO fighter-jets intercepted an An-26 transport airplane flying from mainland Russia to the Kaliningrad region on March 28, as the aircraft had the onboard transponder on and a pre-filed flight plan and maintained radio contact with the regional air traffic control center.

The NATO air-policing mission is conducted from Lithuania and Estonia.
