Commission moves to ban third-country consultants during election campaigns in Lithuania

Votes counting in Vilnius

The Lithuanian National Security Commission, headed by Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, proposed on Monday to ban natural and legal persons from third countries from advising Lithuanian politicians and political parties during election campaigns.

"It is proposed that the Justice Ministry should draft amendments to prohibit consultants from third countries during the election campaign," Arnoldas Pikžirnis, an advisor to the prime minister, told reporters after the commission's meeting.

Legislative amendments will also be drafted to give members of Lithuania's Central Electoral Commission access to classified information, he said.
