Surplys sworn in as Lithuania's agriculture minister
Giedrius Surplys, until recently Lithuania's deputy interior minister responsible for regional policies, on Tuesday was sworn in as the country's new agriculture minister.
He replaces Bronius Markauskas, who announced his resignation in late April amid criticism over his family's farming practices.
Surplys ran in the 2016 general elections on the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union's list.
He has in the past worked as senior communication manager at the public establishment Jungtinis Techninis Sekretoriatas (Joint Technical Secretariat) for 11 years.
