Lithuania's Ministry of National Defense and the Lithuanian Labor Exchange have created a special database, the Retired Soldiers' Bank, to provide an opportunity for employers to hire retired troops.

"Around 430 professional soldiers retire every year. Their average age is 33, thus, being people employable age, they want to continue working activity, pursue careers in other areas and get employed or start their own business and create jobs," Žilvinas Tomkus of the Ministry of National Defense said.

Ligita Valalytė, director of the Lithuanian Labor Exchange noted that following years of military service in specific positions, as artillerists, bomb disposers or combat divers, soldiers face bigger employment problems after retirement than ordinary people.

Over 100 soldiers who have recently retired or plan to do so soon are registered on the Lithuanian Labor Exchange.
