Whistle-blower security to be ensured next year
With the whistle-blower protection law coming into power next year, the security of individuals aiding in unveiling corruption will be adequately ensured. The chairwoman of the workgroup, which prepared the legislation, Agnė Bilotaitė says that this is a signal that the state cares for civic minded individuals, that they will be safe and unharmed.
From January 1, legislation based on foreign best practice is to come into power, which ensures the legal protection of individuals, who unveil illegal activities, which are in breach of public interest.
All state and municipal institutions will have to establish internal channels to provide information on breaches, which will ensure confidentiality.
This is also to be applicable in private sector companies with more than 50 staff.
