"I will stay with the Liberal Movement until Sept. 4. On Sept. 4, I will take the post at the Jewish Community of Lithuania," Vaisbrodas told BNS.

Vaisbrodas has served as foreign policy adviser as Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaitė and foreign policy adviser to Guy Verhofstadt, the head of the political Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Group.

"I was born in a family of a Jew and a Lithuanian, I was raised in a bilingual environment that spoke little about the Jewish culture, customs or religion. It is my part of identity that I haven't yet studied or discovered," Vaisbrodas said in his motivation letter to the Jewish Community of Lithuania.

The post was earlier held by Simonas Gurevičius who was elected as chairman of the Jewish Community of Vilnius in May. Gurevičius seeks invalidation of the election for leadership of the Jewish Community of Lithuania, which reelected Faina Kukliansky for another four-year term.

Meanwhile, Kukliansky challenges Gurevičius' election to head the Jewish community of the Lithuanian capital.

According to the last census of 2011, about 3,000 Jews live in Lithuania.
